September is National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month, established by CDC’s Division of Nutrition, Physical Activity and Obesity aims to bring discussions and solutions about this major public health problem.

Especially in Guam, admitting that we have a variety of delicious meals. Parents and caregivers should always keep in mind the balance between eating healthy meals and other types of food. Additionally, 60 minutes of physical activity should be part of their daily routine. It does not have to be all in a (1) hour session. You can spread out these activities to fit your child’s schedule. It is important for parents and caregivers to participate as well. While your child works toward their fitness goals, you will be making progress on your own health goals too!

Here are some activities that you can establish in your family’s daily routine.

  • Morning. Taking walks with the whole family, especially if you have a dog. You may also do morning stretches or yoga

  • Afternoon. Encourage them to join a after school sport activity program. Allow them to play outdoors with their friends with adult supervision. Doing their chores counts too!

  • Evening. Establish active games, such as catch and kick ball for the whole family to enjoy. Take a family walk before or after eating dinner.
