Domestic violence refers to a pattern of abusive behavior in any relationship used by one partner to gain or maintain control over another. This abuse can be physical, emotional, psychological, sexual, or financial, and can escalate over time. Victims of domestic violence may experience isolation, threats, and intimidation, which can prevent them from seeking help. This abuse can be damaging to individuals regardless of their gender, age, race, or socioeconomic status, and often occurs behind closed doors making it difficult for friends and family to recognize or intervene.

The impact of domestic violence is far reaching, not only affecting the victims, but also their children and the community. Survivors may face long-term psychological effects, including anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder. Recognizing the signs of abuse and offering support is crucial for preventing further harm.
